Artist's Comments

Collab with ~xstalscar

She's the model and she came up with the background, pose, and position of the mermaid. I think she did all the hard work actually ;) I just blended the colors, the lighting (you know so the girl blends in with the color of the background), made the hair flow, added a fin, and smoothed it out some.

This is my first try actually at making a mermaid tail so be kind, I know it's not perfect.

I'm allowing comments so people could compliment Jenni's hard work on this :)

Edit: The girl is lit up and more orangish than blue to match the orange tones of the sunlight in the clouds on the rocks. I wanted it to look like the sun is shining on her as well. Like there is a light source just outside of our view and it's shining down on her.

I absolutely love the background! But the female seems way too out of place. Tints of purples and blues should have been onnthe girl reflecting the light coming down on her.

Yeah no she's more orange like the cloud and the sun. And "CRITIQUE DISCOURAGED" it's against policy to ignore that. Thank you.

I think this is lovely. I adre the soft, glowy quality of her skin, and the bg is stunning. but i think she looks a bit out of place. wrong lighting, and i don't like the colors in the piece of her bikini tie around the neck.

Ok it's not a bikini tie, it's the ribbon to her pearls. I like the colors, they match her scarf top which she choose and I compliment her on it.

She BLENDS in. Maybe you and everyone else haven't studied light and the effects of light on people, but she matchs the effects of the light on the rocks. It looks fine.

And again "CRITIQUE DISCOURAGED" it's against policy to ignore that.

i'm very sorry.
I didn't notice your "critique discouraged." I'll make sure to look for that in the future. I wasn't meaning any harm in my comments; I'm sorry if you took offense in them. It is still quite a beautiful piece.

It's alright I just... I don't want her discouraged due to something I did or didn't do right. I think she worked hard on the idea and I executed it best I could and should be praised.

~longing sigh~

This reminds me of my time spent in Monterey, CA. There's something about the ocean at dusk and dawn on a clear day in that town that just tugs at the heartstrings. I don't know that I miss the place so much as I miss that time of my life...but just seeing something that reminds me of Monterey always tugs at unspent tears within me.

Thank you both for your work; it's beautiful.
